Planning & Setting Up The First Website For Your Service Business

The key to simplifying the process of setting up the first website for your service business is FOCUS.

The first thing to focus on is how the website serves your business. Is it helping you book clients, grow your email list, sell courses? Whatever it is, keeping this focus will guide you in making decisions and help you concentrate your effort on getting the results you want.

Here's what your website planning and setup process can look like. It's the process I use for me VIP Day clients. It's the high-level view of the process so it doesn't matter what the technology you're going to use.

    Core Offer Focus

There are usually many things a service professional can offer - from 1:1 work, to group work, to courses, and more. When you're starting out, you're going to need to pick the one thing you can do right now (or soon). Something that will create the transformation your clients need - this will be your first core offer.

Once you figure it out, you focus on your core offer and build your website and online presence around it.

Focusing on one offer or service line allows for both simplicity and depth which is an unbeatable combination.

    Branding Focus

There’s lots of literature about branding and really, you can spend a lot of time reading and researching online and offline about this. You can literally get a PhD in this.
What I’m here to tell you today is - Don’t.

Instead, adopt an agile mindset to branding and starting.

Instead of considering everything your brand can be, consider what will best serve your core offer and focus on that.

    Tech Focus

When you're starting out online, there are many unknowns. It's important to simplify, so you don't over invest in something you end up switching out of. The nice thing is that you can always make it better later (start simple, grow as you go, remember?).

If you decide to setup a website or even a one-pager, don't stop there. Also set up an email list and a way for clients to book you or buy your digital products (depending on your core offer).

When you're starting out online You need three things

    1.

    A Website

With a professional website you can showcase your brand, publish content to share your expertise, and connect with clients and potential clients.

    2.

    An Email List

With a focused list you can stay in touch with your ideal audience, create value for them, and share your offers when you’re ready.

    3.

    Booking/Sales Tool

And last, you need a place where clients can conveniently book your services and buy your digital products.
